What this office controls
A state senator votes on state law, state appropriations, and the legal powers available to local government. Statewide law can affect Asheville without being written for Asheville.
This district includes 100% of Asheville's 2020 Census population. District 49 contains all of Asheville and many residents outside the city.
Side by side
The same three things for everyone: time in office, their own words, and how they voted when the minutes name who voted no. Motions aren't compared, because a mayor chairs the meeting and a challenger holds no seat.

“I have to wonder how many other dozens or hundreds — hopefully it's not thousands of people — are like her, and they've just fallen through the cracks.”

Voted no on 1 of 1.
Where they differed on helene recovery
No split vote on this issue where the minutes show them on different sides.
"Not among the no votes" means the minutes name who voted no and this person isn't one of them. A unanimous vote names no one, so it isn't counted. Minutes before December 2024 aren't matched to members yet.
